A good idea - 20 years in the making

The original idea for the Jack Frost Screen Protector came over 20 years ago. Steve Pugh, the designer was working in software sales and spent most days on the road, with early starts, and grew frustrated (and cold) de-icing the windscreen and side windows in order to set off. Even with the windscreen covered the side windows still had to be scraped or sprayed. The windscreen cover he purchased was magnetic but blew off in the wind and a friend had a top cover held on via plastic hooks but scratched the wheel arches! He searched for an alternative without success so decided to design one himself.

Steve came up with the basic design as with today’s cover and had 20 made by a local school bag manufacturers. As a one size fits all they were quite baggy as car front profiles vary so much. He gave away a few to family and friends and used one himself but got distracted with the day job and didn’t give much thought to it again…until!

Fast forward 20 years and Steve visited his sister early one morning only to see her husband removing one of the covers for a frost free start. Amazed at it still being used he was told the next door neighbour was still using his! The sister then commented that she couldn’t understand why he hadn’t made a business of it.

So the designing of the Jack Frost Screen Protector began. With the aid of car dimensions software a range of sizes were designed to best fit the majority of cars with the aid of toggles and elastic for a close fit. No magnets or hooks. Using the car doors, wing mirrors and wipers to secure. It was also important that they were not only practical but looked good so a choice of 5 colours were introduced. The lightweight waterproof material was chosen as easily folded away and machine washable for many years of use.
